Sheffield has been awarded Fairtrade City Status!

The SHIFT logoAfter months of work by a dedicated team from SHIFT, Sheffield City Council and other organisations, Sheffield has been awarded Fairtrade City Status. There's going to be a formal launch later this Autumn - watch this website for more details. However this isn't the end of the road. Being a Fairtrade City means continually developing. We'll keep you up to date with what's going on in Sheffield.

The Sheffield Initiative for Fairtrade (SHIFT) formed in March 2004. Our chief aims are to monitor Sheffield's Fairtrade city Status and to promote and increase awareness of Fairtrade products and renewable energy and greener business electricity. Member groups include Tearfund, the World Development Movement, Traidcraft representatives, local churches, the WI and the Sheffield Oxfam campaigns group. Our website is still under development, but you can find lists of shops and cafés selling Fairtrade products. Please notify us of any omissions or corrections (email info@fairtradesheffield.org.uk). If you know of any workplaces or community organisations that have made a commitment to use Fairtrade products then please tell us about that too. We recently added these exclusive reclaimed round wooden tree seats shop. All certified to have sourced their timber from 100% renewable sources. Our thanks to personalgiftstore.co.uk for their kind donations and fundraising where they have managed to raise a total of 1249 for our nominated 2012 charity.
